# Connect Zed to Zorlya

> Add Zorlya to Zed as a remote MCP server with a single url entry under context_servers, then sign in through Zed's OAuth prompt.

Updated 2026-10-25.

To connect Zed to Zorlya, add a `url` entry of `https://mcp.zorlya.com` under `context_servers` and follow Zed's OAuth prompt. Zed is not on Zorlya's list of AI apps, so registration may be refused. We have not tried it.

**Not on Zorlya's list yet.** Zorlya accepts only the AI apps on its list: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Cursor ([how it works](/guides/ai-clients/what-you-approve-when-you-connect)). Zed is not on it, so Zorlya refuses its registration unless Zed sends you back to an address that a listed app uses. We have not tried it. The steps below are what Zed's own documentation describes for a remote server.

## What you need

- An approved Zorlya account. A job seeker account needs the Pro plan, because AI client access is part of Pro.
- Zed with the agent panel. Per-tool permissions in the docs apply to Zed v0.224.0 and later.
- The server URL: `https://mcp.zorlya.com`

## Steps

1. Open the MCP settings page. The docs give **Settings, AI, MCP Servers**, or run the `agent: open settings` action and select `MCP Servers`.
2. Click `Add Server` in the page header, then choose `Add Remote Server`.
3. Or edit the settings file directly. Open it with the `zed: open settings file` action and add Zorlya under `context_servers`:

```json
{
  "context_servers": {
    "zorlya": {
      "url": "https://mcp.zorlya.com"
    }
  }
}
```

4. Do not add a `headers` entry with `Authorization`. The docs say that without one, Zed prompts you to authenticate through the standard MCP OAuth flow.
5. Follow the prompt. On Zorlya's Connect page, choose the account and the permission level, then sign in. Read only is the default. Write tools appear only with Read and change.

## What you should see

A green dot next to the server. Its tooltip reads "Server is active"; other colors and messages mean another state. Zorlya's tools then appear to the agent. A job seeker account has 15 read tools, plus 5 write tools with Read and change.

By default Zed asks before running a tool (`agent.tool_permissions.default` is `"confirm"`). The docs let you set one tool with a key like `mcp:zorlya:top_matches`.

## Try it

- "Use Zorlya top_matches to show my five best jobs and the reason for each score."
- "Search with search_jobs for remote Rust roles, then summarize the first three."

## If it does not connect

1. **A redirect address Zorlya refuses.** Zed's page does not document the OAuth redirect address it uses. Zorlya accepts only the return addresses of the AI apps on its list and refuses anything else at registration. If the sign-in fails right after the prompt, this is the first thing to suspect.
2. **No prompt appears.** Remove any `Authorization` header from the entry, and check that your Zed version is recent enough to ask for OAuth. The docs do not state the minimum version.
3. **Your account is not approved.** Zorlya's Connect page needs an approved account. See [security](/security). A job seeker account on Free or Plus is also refused, because AI client access needs Pro.

## What we checked

The steps come from Zed's documentation, read on 2026-10-17. We did not try the connection to Zorlya in Zed. The docs do not say which redirect address or which Zed version added OAuth, so we cannot say Zed connects today.
